Now after years in development, a writer-director has finally boarded the project-- according toDeadline, German Oscar-winner Florian Gallenberger will take the reins and start writing a script immediately.

Gallenberger won the Oscar for Best Live-Action short in 2000, and also directed the German feature filmJohn Rabe, which starred Steve Buscemi and won four German FIlm Awards in 2009 (no, I have no idea why I've never heard of this movie before). The Milli Vanilli story also has significant German connections-- the man who put them together in the first place was German-born Frank Farian; he's also the guy who exposed the lip-synching scandal when it became too obvious to ignore. The project sounds like a great debut for Gallenberger as he begins his American movie career; casting speculation about how might play the Milli Vanilli guys themselves begins now!

Instead it’s a period comedy set in 1988 starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, and Dan Fogler celebrating the last night of their youth. It’s definitely not a parody movie, but the following video may make you wish it was.

We’ve just gotten our hands on aTake Me Home Tonightmusic video, in which the cast hangs out in a club rocking out, only to decide that instead of dancing they should re-enact the most iconic moments of nearly all the most iconic movies of the 80s right there on the dance floor. The video is less than four minutes long but in that time they manage rather accurately to pull off all the most iconic and identifiable scenes from more than thirty movies. Include in the sequence is a pretty spot on Michael J. Fox impression by Topher Grace and cameos by ALF and Michael Biehn.

There's a chance this may end up in the end credits ofTake Me Home Tonightwhen it shows up in theaters on March 4th. It's a good time, seems like a smart move to me.

Ashortlistfor both Jack and the princess came online, with names like Aaron Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, and Juno Temple. Two months later we still don't have any idea who will be playing the leads, but we do have our villain.

THRreports that Singer has hired Stanley Tucci to play the villain in his fairy tale film. Before you start imagining a sixty-foot tall Stanley Tucci, however, it should be noted that he won't be playing a giant. Instead, the veteran actor will play an assistant to the throne with plans to usurp power (think Jafar inAladdinwithout the Gilbert Gottfried parrot). But while Tucci won't be playing a giant in the film, Bill Nighy and John Kassir will. The two will work together to play Fallon, the two-headed leader of the giants. In the story, written by longtime Singer collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, the longstanding truce between giants and humans is tested when a princess is kidnapped and a young farmer, named Jack, leads a rescue mission to find her.

While we may not know who will be playing the characters that we will be rooting for, they've already managed to knock it out of the park in the villain department. Stanley Tucci is never not awesome, and this kind of underhanded character is right in his wheelhouse. As for Nighy and Kassir, all you have to do is imagine a giant with the voices of Davy Jones and The Crypt Keeper. Like I said, perfect.

But while those two projects have been greenlit and given shooting schedules, questions remain about the Joss Whedon-scriptedCabin in the Woodsand the remake ofRed Dawn. Both projects have been completed and in the can for months, but due to MGM's issues their theatrical future has been up in the air. Today we learn that they may finally be coming.

The Los Angeles Timesis reporting that Sony and MGM are currently closing in on a distribution and co-financing deal that would link the two companies for both old projects, likeCabin in the WoodsandRed Dawn, and new projects, like the next two Bond films. The agreement would see Sony provide 50% of the budget forBond 23and 25% ofBond 24(presumably because MGM would actually have some money of their own by then). The deal would be similar to the one struck by the two companies for both of the previous two 007 movies,Casino RoyaleandQuantum of Solace. Sony would also take distribution control of the aforementioned completed titles as well as MGM's 4,000-title library on DVD (Fox currently holds the rights to the DVD library, but the contract expires in September).

Though the report says that the two are finalizing the deal, there is some concern that it may not all play out, as a source close to the negotiations said,"there are a number of complex terms still to be hammered out and that it's not certain a deal will be completed."Sony isn't the only company interested in handling distribution for MGM, particularly the Bond franchise, with Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. (who are handling the distribution forThe Hobbit) talking to the classic studio at one point.

Another aspect to the deal is that MGM wants to have a piece of films already in production. Because MGM was struggling for so long, the studio won't have a movie ready to be released until late 2012, which is a long time away. One project in particular that has peaked the studio's interest is David Fincher's adaptation ofThe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. While discussions are on-going regarding that title, MGM also inquired about a piece of Marc Webb's upcomingSpider-Manreboot, but were turned down.

It's all very technical, but if the deal works out we might be able to seeCabin in the WoodsandRed Dawnbefore the end of the year. For those wondering, that's a good thing.

THRreports that Smulders and Marvel are now in final negotiations to have the actress play a part in the major superhero movie. In the comics, Hill is one of the highest ranking officers in the secretive organization and has previously taken control as Exectutive Director in Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) absence. The character's most famous storyline is during"Civil War"when she, alongside Tony Stark/Iron Man, attempts to enact the Superhuman Registration Act and locks away any superhero that doesn't comply. Smulders will be one of, so far, two female S.H.I.E.L.D. members, the other being Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow.

As was mentioned this past weekend, Smulders was director Joss Whedon's choice to play Wonder Woman in what ended up being a failed project, and she seems to be quite a good fit for the role. But now we are left with another question: are they going to make her cut her hair?

Nothing is ever set in stone until the ultimate prize is handed out. It’s like a Presidential election with ten candidates. What does a voter do if he or she is supporting a lesser nominee with little to no chance of winning? Do you stick with your gut, or do you vote for one of the front runners simply because you don’t want another front runner to win? These arethe issues that ultimately determine who gets the Academy Award. Well, that and animal rights.

According toThe Hollywood Reporter,The King’s Speechwas threatened with a lawsuit by animal rights group The American Humane Society over its use of the phrase“No animals were harmed” during the closing credits. Most people don’t realize that’s a real stamp of approval placed on a film by The American Humane Society after script reviews and a set visit. Problem being that the AHS had nothing to do with theKing's Speechproduction.

When the story first broke, many were openly speculating on the possibility of backlash from the Academy’s numerous animal rights activists, but just as the gossip was heating up, the two sides resolved their dispute. Apparently, no animals were harmed in the making ofThe King’s Speech, but as a British production, The American Humane Society was not involved. The company simply wanted the Oscar contender to remove said phrasing. All has been taken care of, and now voters will be left to mull over the merits of each picture on their own. At least until another issue pops up.

In addition to trying to get a graduate degree at Yale, Franco has signed on to write, director and/or star in no less than nine projects. Now I'm beginning to think that there's something go wrong with him mentally.

THRreports that Franco is now the frontrunner to star in Sam Raimi'sOz, the Great and Powerful. It was just two weeks ago thatRobert Downey Jr., another actor with an airtight schedule, was forced to drop the movie, at which time it was rumored that Johnny Depp would be stepping into his place. According to the new report, Depp actually took meetings about the role, but decided that it wasn't for him. Franco, of course, has plenty of experience working with Raimi, having starred in all three of hisSpider-Manmovies as Harry Osborn. In the film, a prequel of sorts toThe Wizard of Oz, would see Franco play the Wizard as an expert con man who, after a ballooning accident, lands in the magical land of Oz. Starting up a relationship with Good Witch Glinda, they hatch a plan to get rid of her two evil sisters. While there is no start date just yet, the plan is to start filming in the latter half of this year.

While I can definitely see Franco playing this role, I really am afraid that the guy is spreading himself too thin. The guy is immensely talented, but if he keeps working at this pace he's going to burn out before he turns 40. Perhaps if he does decide to sign on to this one, he'll decide to postpone one of the others.

Screen Cravehas gotten their hands on some scans from the inside of the newest issue ofEmpirethat provide looks at an assortment of characters, including the first shots of Richard Armitage as Heinz Kruger and even a teeny, tiny look at Tommy Lee Jones, who plays Col. Chester Phillips. The spread also gives us another look at Chris Evans in full Cap uniform (including helmet), once again making the argument that he looks totally badass.

Now, sadly, it appears they have decided to take a detour.

THRreports that Kristen Stewart, aspreviously rumored, has entered negotiations to play the fairy tale princess inSnow White and The Huntsman. Of the three Snow White films currently in production, this project is the first to find their female lead, discounting Natalie Portman who, because of her pregnancy, will most likely be unavailable for Disney'sSnow White and The Seven. Back in December there was a shortlist that contained largely unknown actresses including Riley Keough, Felicity Jones, Bella Heathcoat and Alicia Vikander, though there was the looming possibility that the studio would go with a known name, such as Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Saoirse Ronan.

The news comes right on the heels of Stewart no longer having a part in the race to play Lois Lane in Zack Snyder'sSupermanreboot, and I highly doubt that this is an unrelated event. With theTwilightfranchise quickly coming to an end, Stewart needs to start capitalizing on her current fame by collecting projects. For now we'll just have to deal with the fact that we'll be getting a stone-faced, lip-biting Snow White.

After Gordon Levitt'sInceptionco-star, Tom Hardy was hired and the Riddler rumors were put to rest, however, the rumors of his involvement died down severely. Turns out that may have been premature.

Deadlineis reporting that Joseph Gordon Levitt has entered talks for a part in the Batman finale. In true Nolan fashion, it's unknown what role Gordon Levitt will play, but hopefully we'll find out sometime soon (before the anticipation kills us). Just yesterday it was announced that the movie will be shooting in May, which will likely be long after the completion of Rian Johnson'sLooper, in which Gordon Levitt is starring and just started production.

Words can't describe how happy this makes me. Joseph Gordon Levitt is easily one of the best young talents working today and elevates everything he does. Even if the role he plays ends up being a bum on a Gotham street corner it will somehow make the movie better. Let's just hope that this isn't another rumor.
